The Panamanian government asks gaming operators to pay more taxes

(Panama).- The Panamanian government asked casino operators and businessmen of Colon Trade-free zone to pay more taxes, to strenghten the official programs against poverty in the country.

"The state has to collect more money, and achieve this aim, the sectors of economy that earn a lot of money and pay a few taxes in proportion, should pay much more and be supportive with people”, said the Deputy Minister of Economy, Frank De Lima.

The officer issued its statements before the habitants of the Eastern zone of the Panamanian capital, in the third meeting of the Project of Community Development (Prodec), that looks to improve the standard of living of the poor zones of the country.

De Lima regretted that businessmen of the Colon Free Trade Zone (ZLC) are reluctant to pay more taxes and demanded casinos and slot halls owners to help in the fight against poverty.

The Panamanian government boosts a bill in the Legislative Assembly for a tax increment in ZLC that will increase the fiscal collection us$ 100 million. De Lima said that the government considers to tax betting because casino owners have exorbitant winnings thanks to a government tender, but do not pay taxes.
