Interview with Marcel Heutmekers, IGT SVP Gaming, LatAm

During the trade show held last month in Buenos Aires, Mr. Heutmekers delved into their expectations for the region next year, as well as the feedback received from visitors to IGT’s stand. "We will continue to focus on being growth partners for our customers and providing engaging experiences for players by focusing on our innovations in content and platform technology," he said.

hat can you tell us about the feedback received by the products and innovations IGT showcased at SAGSE 2019?

We were pleased with the enthusiastic feedback we received at the show. Our customers had high praise for our core video portfolio, which we believe is our strongest yet. They also enjoyed demos of our new linked progressives, such as Scarab Grand, which represents the evolution of the globally successful Scarab game. In addition, they were impressed by our Cobalt 27 cabinet, which made its Latin America trade show debut at the show. Cobalt delivers a highly entertaining player experience with a vast library of proven game themes and multi-game bundles, and will help our customers diversify their offerings on their gaming floors.

What does the Latin American market mean to IGT?

Latin America is an important region for IGT. We have decades of experience in the area, and we’re proud of the deep relationships we’ve built with our customers overtime. We remain committed to helping our customers achieve their objectives and engage their players by providing unrivaled gaming experiences.

Several jurisdictions in the region such as Argentina, Chile, Colombia, etc., have gone through or are currently experiencing severe political and/or economic crises. How does the company manage to overcome the different difficulties that the Latin American region may pose?

Our long history as a supplier and growth partner in Latin America enables us to work collaboratively with our customers to achieve results regardless of the challenges presented by geopolitical events. By focusing on developing player-driven solutions, we ensure that we’re offering our customers the best products, platforms, and content in the market to help them weather uncertainty and continue to grow.  

What about your plans for 2020? 

In 2020, we will continue to focus on being growth partners for our customers and providing engaging experiences for players by focusing on our innovations in content and platform technology. In addition, we’re focused on placing many of the exciting games and solutions that we showed at SAGSE.

Which jurisdictions do you feel currently offer the most potential for gaming growth both in the land-based and online gaming verticals?

We see strong potential throughout the business in both the land-based and online segments. Latin America is certainly a region where exciting opportunities exist to expand on our business and leverage new opportunities and channels as they arise. 

What discussions should drive next year’s agenda? Where will the focus be?

We’ll continue to focus on creating unrivaled experiences that engage players and propel our customers’ success. We’ll achieve this developing growth-driving hardware and systems solutions, and above all, we will continue to generate compelling content— for example, we are deeply committed to providing highly entertaining multi-level progressive content to the Latin America market in 2020. We believe that providing our customers with a continuous pipeline of engaging, player-driven games is the key to their ongoing long-term growth.
