Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF) will enter Brazil’s expanding sports betting and online gaming sector next month, with the launch of its new “Bet” (how gaming brands are called in Brazil) slated for November.

The state-owned bank expects the venture to generate between R$2 billion and R$2.5 billion ($370 million–$465 million) in its first year, rising to approximately R$7 billion ($1.3 billion) in 2026, reports Games Magazine Brasil.

CEF President Carlos Vieira confirmed the timeline in an interview with O Globo, stating the bank’s intention to become a major force in the regulated market. “The expectation is the second half. Caixa has been in the gaming world since 1966. We are taking every care to do this in a proper manner, under oversight from control bodies. Last year, the bank collected nearly R$26 billion ($4.8 billion) in gaming revenue, and 48% of that is transferred in the form of taxes,” Vieira said.

The bank’s license was approved in July by the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) under the Ministry of Finance. The authorization covers three brands, BetCaixa, MegaBet, and Xbet Caixa, and allows Caixa to operate both online and land-based betting activities through 2029.

Vieira noted that even before securing regulatory approval, Caixa had been preparing for market entry. “If we launch in this second semester, we have a target of at least R$2 billion ($370 million). Next year, something around R$7 billion ($1.30 billion). If we look at our share in 'Bets', we believe it should surpass R$35 billion–R$40 billion ($6.45 billion–$7.40 billion) in total revenue next year,” he projected.

To power its new platform, Caixa has signed a turnkey technology agreement with Playtech, one of the world’s leading gaming software suppliers. Playtech CEO Mor Weizer, speaking at a recent earnings presentation, said the company had finalized a deal with a top Brazilian operator, without naming Caixa specifically, and described the partnership as a “very significant” opportunity given the operator’s market reach.

Caixa plans to leverage its extensive nationwide lottery network of nearly 15,000 outlets to offer sports betting alongside digital channels.

There is a propensity for people to bet more when the prize is accumulating, and we haven’t had big accumulating jackpots this year. Regarding the 'Bet', we’re ready to launch now at the end of November."

"It’s a new market, and Caixa is a new entrant. We want to be an important player. The revenue estimate is between R$2 billion and R$2.5 billion ($370 million –$465 million) for next year,” Vieira told O Globo.
