n the meeting, held last week in the local council, Luis Sánchez, representative of the Spanish Investment Group called Casco Antiguo and interested in the project, commented that have already initiated the corresponding procedures in order to obtain the respective licenses in Asuncion Council.
“After having surveyed which were the needs of the city of Asuncion, we think it is very convenient to propose the construction of a big and emblematic hotel, with the services of a casino. It will bring the capital a business driving force, which will lead to generate other types of activities in the area. We have already started the administrative procedures to obtain, in a determined deadline, the necessary administrative licenses in order to be able to develop this project and make it real,” expressed the Spanyard.
He also affirmed that the former installations of Cervepar are becoming a key area to boost the city, revitalize it and turn it again into a historic center.
With regards to this issue, Asunción council, Evanhy de Gallegos, expressed she is in favour of the project, alleging that this approach coincides fully with the policies expressed by the council in order to revitalize the historical quarter of the city.
“We are satisfied and celebrate the decision of the hotel that would be built in the facility that was abandoned for a long time”, pointed the Mayoress. She added that the Inter-American Development Bank (BID) has already brought a millionaire amount of money for the restructuring of the mentioned area. “One of the most important projects is to move our center towards the area of the port, to the initial zone, because our center in Asunción started there,” affirmed Evanhy de Gallegos.
Last June, when the Spanish investor group acquired the old facility of the former Cervecería Paraguaya (Paraguayan Brewery), assured that, together with Asuncion Council, the space would be used only to promote the culture, with the arrival of the Bicentennial Year. For some time now, the idea changed completely, because in the day before, the same investors announced the construction of a luxury hotel, as well as a casino in that place. Back then, Luis Sánchez said that the aim is, more than anything, to revitalize the capital center, protecting the whole historic architecture, because they have knowledge of the first Cervecería Paraguaya.
