Three Las Vegas downtown casinos to accept Canadian dollars on par with U.S. currency

Three downtown Las Vegas casinos have announced a new initiative aimed at attracting more Canadian visitors amid a drop in tourism from the country.

Circa Resort & Casino, The D Las Vegas, and Golden Gate Hotel & Casino are launching an “At Par” program that treats 1 Canadian dollar as 1 U.S. dollar for select hotel rooms, gaming, and beverage purchases. As of Thursday morning, the actual CAD/USD exchange rate stood at $0.72.

Canada has long been Las Vegas’ top international market, making up an average of 44% of all global air travelers to the city from 2019 to 2024, as per data from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. However, Canadian visitation fell 20% in 2025, while airline seat capacity from Canada dropped 30%.

Tourism experts said the decline may be tied to tensions over President Donald Trump’s policies, including tariffs and remarks about Canada. Trump, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, said Canadians “should be grateful to us” and claimed that “Canada lives because of the United States.” He later posted an AI-generated image showing himself with world leaders and a map marked with U.S. flags over Greenland, Canada, Cuba, and Venezuela.

Derek Stevens, co-owner of the three casinos and CEO of Circa Hospitality Group, said the “At Par” program is designed to make Las Vegas more affordable for Canadians. “What I want to do is, I want to invite Canada back to Las Vegas," Stevens said in a social media video.

The program covers select hotel rooms and drinks at Bar Canada in The D, Overhang in Circa, and Bar Prohibition in Golden Gate. Canadian gamblers can also enjoy a 1-to-1 exchange rate on up to $500 in slot play. The offer is open to all Canadians, including those not staying at the casinos, and runs through Aug. 31.

Stevens, who grew up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, near Windsor, Ontario, said the promotion is meant to “honor that connection and remove unnecessary barriers,” encouraging Canadians to return. “I miss Canada. Las Vegas misses Canada. Our team misses Canada,” Stevens said. “Hope to see you here.”
