The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has published a review on betting activity in Maltese football for the 2023–2024 season.
The review, part of the MGA’s 2025 regulatory oversight plan, analysed data from B2C Type 2 licensees to explore wagering trends, player demographics, and the integrity measures in place across the market.
According to the MGA, betting on Maltese football remains moderate in size, with most wagers placed on mainstream markets such as match outcomes and total goals.
Participation from Maltese bettors is limited and primarily consists of young men residing in urban areas. The review also noted a modest level of international betting interest in Maltese football, as volumes remain small compared to larger European leagues.
Licensees were found to have established integrity measures, including systems for monitoring suspicious betting activity and cooperating with both the MGA and sports governing bodies. These efforts, the authority said, demonstrate the industry’s continued commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent betting environment.
The MGA said it will continue working with licensees and stakeholders to strengthen integrity safeguards and maintain trust in Maltese sport and the betting industry.
