The Responsible Online Gaming Association (ROGA) has partnered with not-for-profit service BetBlocker to promote the adoption of its free gambling-blocking software across the U.S.
BetBlocker lets users block access to more than 118,000 gambling websites and 1,500 apps, both regulated and unregulated. The app is free, anonymous, works across devices, and will soon add a scheduling feature to let players plan restrictions in advance.
ROGA, whose eight members represent 90% of the legal U.S. sports betting market by handle, will feature BetBlocker on its website, promote it through its channels, and explore integration with member operators.
“ROGA was established to raise the standard for responsible online gaming through collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to evidence-based practices,” ROGA Executive Director Dr. Jennifer Shatley said in a statement.
“Making resources like BetBlocker more visible and accessible is one way we put that mission into action,” she added. “We’re equipping individuals with practical tools that support their decisions and well-being.”
BetBlocker founder Duncan Garvie called the collaboration a way to “help tens of thousands of people take meaningful steps to manage their relationship with gambling.”
"By working with ROGA and its member operators, we’re removing barriers to support and making it easier for people to access the tools they need—freely, anonymously, and on their own terms,” he said.
The partnership aligns with ROGA’s broader efforts to support self-exclusion, including a forthcoming data clearinghouse to allow players to block themselves across all member operators.
Garvie confirmed to SiGMA News that the new partnership includes financial backing. He said the deal will significantly boost awareness of BetBlocker in the US, highlighting ROGA’s influence in the US gambling sector.
“ROGA represents 90% of the licensed US market,” he said. “They have unequalled influence and reach in the US market and objectives to promote safer gambling and bespoke support for players that align perfectly with the mission of BetBlocker.”
BetBlocker is a registered charity in Delaware and regulated under the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, with oversight from the Scottish Charity Register. It promotes itself as the only gambling-blocking software that is completely free and available worldwide.
The software blocks both regulated and unregulated gambling operators, with its database constantly updated to cover new websites and apps.
