The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) is preparing for a leadership transition at its Industry Forum, with Chair Nick Rust set to step down at the end of November following a two-year tenure.
A new appointment is expected in the coming months as the Forum continues its role in shaping regulatory discussions and interpreting industry responses to the Gambling Review White Paper.
Rust was appointed as the inaugural Chair of the Forum in November 2023. As Chair, Rust coordinated the Forum’s activities and engagement with the Commission. His industry experience includes serving as Chief Executive of the British Horseracing Association and as a non-executive Director at Redcar Racecourse.
“I’m pleased with the work the Forum has delivered and believe it has helped the Commission better understand the implications of its existing and planned policies for consumers and industry operators,” said Rust.
“I’d like to thank my fellow Forum members for their work and also the Gambling Commission team who support the Forum. I look forward to seeing how the Industry Forum continues to support the Commission to achieve its regulatory aims,” he added.
“Nick has been instrumental in the creation of the Forum, helping to develop and embed it into the Commission’s expert groups,” said UKGC Head of Governance, Helen Child. “I have very much enjoyed working with him as we established the Forum, and I would like to thank Nick for his hard work in getting the group to this point. We wish him well for the future.”
The Industry Forum was established to provide structured input from industry operators and consumers into regulatory discussions. Under Rust’s leadership, the Forum contributed to policy development during the implementation of the Gambling Review White Paper.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with both Nick and the Forum over the last two years. Nick has been such a valuable sounding board, a constant fount of knowledge and insight and a great support to me personally,” said Andrew Rhodes, UKGC’s Chief Executive.
Rhodes confirmed that the Commission will announce Rust’s successor in due course.
