Michigan iGaming revenue breaks new record at $301.4 million in May

Michigan saw online gambling revenue reach a record $301.4 million in May, with state and local governments receiving more than $90 million in tax and regulatory payments from online gambling and casino operators. 

The record $301.4 million in gross receipts, collected from online casino gaming and sports betting activity, surpassed the previous high of $260.5 million in March by 15.8%, according to figures released by the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB).

Compared to May 2024, total gross receipts rose 26%, while the increase over April 2025 stood at 21.6%. Adjusted gross receipts—net of promotional spending—totaled $271.8 million, up 31.4% year-over-year and 4.6% from the previous month.

iGaming generates majority of revenue

Online casino games continued to lead the digital gambling market, producing $251.5 million in gross receipts during May, up 26.6% from the same month last year. Adjusted iGaming receipts reached $236.2 million, reflecting a 31.9% annual increase.

Among iGaming operators, BetMGM and MGM Grand Detroit reported $7.4 million in gross receipts and $63.3 million in adjusted receipts, returning to the top position after ranking second in April.

FanDuel and MotorCity Casino followed closely with $65.9 million in gross and $61.9 million in adjusted receipts. DraftKings, in partnership with the Bay Mills Indian Community, posted $36.3 million in gross and $34.1 million in adjusted revenue.

Commercial iGaming operators paid $49.1 million in state taxes. Detroit received $12.7 million from this segment, and tribal operators contributed $5.8 million to their respective governing bodies.

Sports betting also posts gains

Mobile sports betting operators reported $50 million in gross receipts for May, up 19.3% from the prior year. Adjusted sports betting receipts totaled $35.6 million, a 27.7% year-over-year increase. The total sports wagering handle stood at $386.1 million, 12.3% higher than May 2024.

FanDuel and MotorCity Casino reported $22.6 million in gross receipts on a $139.5 million handle, resulting in a 16.2% hold. DraftKings and Bay Mills followed with $12.5 million from $108.2 million in bets. BetMGM and MGM Grand Detroit posted $7.4 million from a $54.7 million handle. The hold rate statewide was 12.95%.

The state collected $2 million in sports betting taxes, and Detroit received $651,441.

Detroit casinos add to public funds

As for land-based casino gaming, Detroit’s three commercial casinos—MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown—reported $114 million in revenue for May, up 0.4% from May 2024. Table games and slots accounted for $112.7 million, while retail sports betting brought in $1.3 million.

The casinos contributed $9.1 million in state gaming taxes and $13.4 million to Detroit. Retail sports betting added $48,431 in state taxes and $59,193 to the city.
