Clarion Gaming Managing Director Stuart Hunter is taking on one of the UK’s toughest endurance events to raise £6,000 (US$8,016) for CHIPS, a charity that provides wheelchairs for children with severe mobility issues.
On May 17, Hunter will run the Spartan Beast, a brutal 21km (13.1 mile) obstacle race through the Chiltern Hills. The course features 30 obstacles including rope climbs, slip walls, and barbed wire crawls.
"Each CHIPS wheelchair is a piece of precision engineering designed to meet the complex physiological requirements of each individual child,” said Hunter.
“Giving a child the gift of freedom opens up a new vista of previously inaccessible opportunities enabling them to navigate their world with dignity and independence, in the process enhancing and accelerating their personal development,” he continued.
Hunter added that all funds raised will go directly to covering the cost of a wheelchair for a child.
CHIPS co-founder Linda Lindsay thanked Clarion Gaming for their long-time support, which has helped raise £4.5 million (US$6 million) for the charity. She praised Hunter’s dedication, noting that while many fundraisers push their limits for CHIPS, none have completed a 13-mile obstacle course with barbed wire.
“It's this 'can do' attitude which defines our industry and I wish Stuart all the very best when he takes on what sounds like a quite formidable challenge," she said.
