The Danish Gambling Authority has unveiled its latest annual report detailing efforts to combat illegal gambling activities in the country. The report highlights regulatory rules and reviews the authority's actions taken throughout 2023 to tackle illegal gambling effectively.

In 2023, the Danish Gambling Authority, in collaboration with the Danish Tax Agency's
anti-fraud unit, conducted three searches of potentially illegal websites. In addition, the Danish Gambling Authority's market analysis team contributed with searches for potentially illegal websites.

As in previous years, the Danish Gambling Authority had a number of illegal gambling
websites blocked by the court in 2023. In 2023, 49 illegal gambling websites were
blocked, including stake.com, one of the largest international gambling operators.

According to the report's summary, there has been an apparent rise in the presence of illegal gambling activities online. However, the Danish Gambling Authority believes this surge is primarily due to its heightened focus on combating such activities rather than an expansion of the illegal market itself.

The authority's approach includes collaboration with tech giants Apple, Facebook and Google. Through these partnerships, the Danish Gambling Authority can swiftly identify and report illegal gambling content found in various apps and social media channels, ensuring its prompt removal from platforms accessible to Danish users.

The report emphasizes the Danish Gambling Authority's commitment to safeguarding players and maintaining a well-regulated gambling market. It highlights ongoing efforts over the past decade to monitor and address illegal gambling operators targeting Danish consumers without proper licensing.

Despite the observed increase in illegal gambling-related websites, the report asserts that Denmark's illegal gambling market remains limited, supported by high channelization rates indicating a significant share of the market being regulated.

Additionally, the Danish Gambling Authority is actively addressing other forms of illegal gambling, including issues like "skin betting" and the intersection between gambling and video games. Education initiatives regarding illegal gambling are also being prioritized.

Looking beyond national borders, the Danish Gambling Authority is actively engaged in international collaborations, aligning with other European gambling regulators to share information, best practices, and establish further partnerships with stakeholders, including social media platforms.

In light of these efforts, the Danish Gambling Authority encourages citizens to report any instances of illegal gambling they encounter.
