Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil’s president, received Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, head of the Tourism Ministry; Vitor Hugo, leader of the ruling party at the Congress’ lower house—the Chamber of Deputies— and Deputy Newton Cardoso Jr, president of the Tourism Committee.
The president told Cardoso Jr. he was in favor of legalizing casinos in Brazil, but he believed each state should enact their own regulations.
Newton Cardoso Jr. has been leading several efforts to promote the tourism industry by authorizing gambling. In July, during a meeting with Chamber of Deputies’ presiding officer Rodrigo Maia, he requested for several tourism bills that would legalize gambling to have priority over other proposals.
