Back in September, Yogonet reported that Paddy Power Betfair Chief Executive Breon Corcoran had written a letter to Tracey Crouch, the minister at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport leading a long-awaited review of fixed-odds betting terminals (FOBTs) expressing his support to a planned curb on the machines. Greg Knight of Jenningsbet has now responded to Corcoran's statements sayig his competitor was "seeking to deliberately undermine the UK retail betting industry."

Jenningsbet employs 480 and currently operates hundreds of betting shops around the UK.

In response to Corcoran, Managing Director Knight wrote a letter to Tracey Crouch and Culture Secretary Karen Bradley targeting what he called a "blatant commercial consideration" by Paddy Power Betfair's boss. He went on to accuse the company of seeking to “capitalize on the demise of the independent sector inthe UK by takeover and market consolidation.”

"It would also benefit from the migration online of retail customers," Knight affirmed citing a Paddy Power Betfair presentation to investors where the bookmaker highlighted “significant opportunities in the market" to acquire betting shops.

"Mr Corcoran is well aware that even well-run businesses like ours would not be able to survive a drastic cut to stakes. He's using the Triennial Review as a vehicle to deliver a long-term strategy of market domination.

"The independent sector employs 4,000 of the 40,000 people employed in betting shops. PPB is cynically attempting to use the British government for its own ends. Mr Corcoran is playing with people's livelihoods and I urge your department to recognize and acknowledge that."
