theScore Bet opens pre-registration in Alberta ahead of market debut

theScore Bet has opened pre-registration in Alberta as the Canadian province prepares to introduce a regulated online gaming market. The online sportsbook is allowing prospective users to download the app and complete the steps required to create an account in advance of the official market launch, which remains subject to regulatory approvals.

Billy Turchin, Chief Product Officer of PENN Interactive, said the company intends to enter the Alberta market once approvals are finalized. “theScore is Canada's premier digital sports media brand, and we can't wait to bring our best-in-class sportsbook and casino app theScore Bet to Alberta,” Turchin said.

“We commend the Alberta government on all their efforts towards bringing regulated online gaming operators to the Province and look forward to introducing Albertans to our integrated media and betting offering when the market opens.”

The sportsbook is available on both iOS and Android platforms and includes a wide range of sports betting markets alongside online casino games. The betting platform is integrated with the company's sports media application, theScore, bringing media content and wagering functions together within a single ecosystem.

Other operators are also preparing for Alberta's upcoming launch. Last month, PointsBet Canada also opened pre-registration for its sports betting and online casino platform, positioning the company for entry into what is set to become Canada’s second open and competitive regulated iGaming market after Ontario.

At present, Alberta allows regulated online wagering only through the government-run Play Alberta platform, though that monopoly is expected to end as early as 2026. The province passed iGaming legislation in May 2025 aimed at curbing unregulated betting and creating an Ontario-style competitive market.
