Social media activity, trademark filings, and growing market speculation are fuelling expectations that prediction market platform Polymarket could soon launch a native cryptocurrency, widely expected to trade under the ticker POLY.
Speculation intensified this week after a senior Polymarket intern posted on social media that the company would soon introduce one-minute crypto prediction markets, hinting that the long-anticipated token debut would be next.
Polymarket has not confirmed a timeline for the launch. In October, however, the company’s chief marketing officer, Matthew Modabber, confirmed plans to issue a native cryptocurrency and said it would include an airdrop.
Recent filings with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the marks “POLY” and “$POLY” have added to expectations that a launch could be approaching. The use of dollar-prefixed tickers is common in online discussions of digital assets. Earlier regulatory filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission had also fuelled speculation that the platform was preparing to introduce its own token.
Crypto data provider CoinMarketCap has published a placeholder page for POLY, indicating readiness to track the asset once it launches. Community sentiment on the page shows 91% bullishness toward the token.
“This page is a placeholder for the eventual Polymarket token. No further details are available at the moment. Please refer to the official Polymarket resources for future updates,” CoinMarketCap said.
Rival prediction platforms have already begun offering markets tied to the expected launch. Opinion Labs, which is not available to U.S. users, and Predict.fun are listing yes-or-no contracts on when POLY will be released.
Betting data on those platforms points to higher odds of a launch in the third quarter, with December contracts suggesting traders expect the token to debut before the end of 2026.
Polymarket is among the largest event-contract platforms globally and is considered one of the most crypto-centric operators in the prediction markets sector.
