The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has unveiled a new campaign video aimed at warning consumers about the risks posed by unregulated gambling operators in the UK.
The short film, “Black Market: Spot The Difference,” begins by depicting a betting site that looks like a legitimate platform, complete with bright graphics and promotional offers. But as the narrative develops, it is revealed to be run by an unlicensed operator. The group warned that such black market sites copy trusted brands while operating outside UK law, without player safeguards or responsible gambling protections.
Unlike licensed operators, black market platforms pay no tax and contribute nothing to the UK economy, the council said. By contrast, the regulated gambling industry generates £6.8 billion ($9.2 billion) annually, pays £4 billion ($5.39 billion) in tax, and supports around 109,000 jobs, while providing funding for popular sports.
A BGC spokesperson said: “This campaign is about exposing the hidden dangers of the black market. These unregulated sites deliberately mimic trusted brands but play by none of the rules that keep people safe.
"The Black Market: Spot The Difference campaign forms part of the BGC’s wider commitment to raising standards and promoting safer gambling, complementing major industry initiatives such as Safer Gambling Week.”
