The Virginia Lottery reported that Virginians wagered $510,179,552 on sports in August 2025, a 22.4% increase from last year.
During the month, fourteen mobile operators and three casino locations were authorized to accept sports wagers across the state. Bettors won $447,299,369, leaving operators with a 12.33% hold.
Mobile operators generated $506,278,964 in gross wagers, and casinos $3,900,589. After winnings and deductions, adjusted gross revenue was $57,342,148 for mobile operators and $938,895 for casinos, totaling $58,281,044.
Of the state tax collected from sports wagering AGR, 97.5% is deposited into Virginia’s General Fund, while 2.5% is allocated to the Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund, administered by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.
As for casino gaming, in August, Hard Rock Bristol, Rivers Casino Portsmouth, and Caesars Virginia generated $84.8 million in gaming revenue, up 34.3% year-over-year and 0.1% from July 2025, with $65.5 million from slots and $19.2 million from table games.
Caesars Virginia earned $34.5 million AGR ($26.6 million slots, $8 million table games), Rivers Casino Portsmouth $28 million ($20.4 million slots, $7.6 million table games), and Hard Rock Bristol $22.3 million ($18.6 million slots, $3.7 million table games).
