Rank Group has kicked off a major refurbishment strategy with a £15 million (US$20.15 million) investment into its flagship Grosvenor Casino venue, The Victoria, located in West London.

The iconic Grosvenor Casino site, known locally as “The Vic,” has fully reopened following a significant remodelling period during which parts of the casino were temporarily closed to the public. The extensive upgrade encompasses improvements across two casino floors, the gaming terrace, and the poker room, promising a modernized and enhanced gaming experience.

This £15m renovation marks our boldest investment ever in a single site and is a statement of intent to modernise Grosvenor’s presence in London and across other casinos in England and Wales in line with the opportunities provided to us by the new legislation,” said Mark Harper, Managing Director at Grosvenor Casinos.

This is about reimagining what a flagship venue can be and doubles down on our commitment to elevate the player and gaming experience while also embracing the legacy of one of the world’s most respected casinos in the UK,” he added.

The refurbishment coincides with recent changes in UK gambling legislation. New government regulations have relaxed the ratio between gaming machines and tables from 2:1 and permitted debit card payments directly into machines, aiming to boost the commercial appeal of land-based casinos amid rising competition from online gaming.

The reforms, which took full effect on 22 July, allow The Victoria to double its gaming machine count to 80 and introduce sports betting for the first time. Similar to its venues in England, Grosvenor Casinos will also be able to roll out sports betting services at its properties in Wales under the new rules.

Following these regulatory changes in May, Rank Group announced plans to quickly deploy 882 new gaming machines across its Grosvenor properties in the UK, bringing the total to 2,249 units. The company is also exploring opportunities in Scotland in light of the updated regulations.

Rank Group’s full preliminary financial results for 2024/25 are scheduled for release on 14 August.
