Buzz Bingo has launched a £25 million ($33.95 million) investment program to upgrade its network of clubs across the UK, aiming to create venues that resonate more with younger audiences. Backed by new financing from Barclays, the initiative will see the operator refurbish its locations with updated technology, redesigned interiors, and expanded digital offerings.
The first site completed under the program, Buzz’s club on Sheffield Parkway, reopened with a new main hall layout, modern bar and lounge spaces, local artwork, and high-spec digital installations. The company reported that footfall at the venue rose by 200 percent in its first week back compared to the week before closure, and was up 131 percent year-on-year.
Buzz’s plan includes installing over 10,000 electronic bingo tablets, adding 1,300 new slot machines, and introducing digital membership systems and self-service kiosks designed to mirror those found in quick-service restaurants. The rollout will continue this year with refurbishments in Leeds, Stockport, and other cities.
Chief Executive Dominic Mansour said the effort is focused on updating bingo’s traditional format without losing its appeal. “This is all about modernising bingo for the next generation of players and taking our clubs to the next level to offer a truly unmatched experience for our players,” Mansour said.
The revamp is part of Buzz’s wider five-year strategy announced in 2023 to grow its business by blending its in-person and online operations. The company reported strong performance last year, with EBITDA rising 14 percent and online revenue climbing 31 percent. Buzz’s total net gaming revenue reached £207 million ($281.09 million) in FY23.
Buzz now counts over one million members and draws more than 100,000 visitors each week to its clubs, paying out roughly £2 million ($2.72 million) in weekly prizes in venues and £400,000 online. Nearly half of the new customers are between 18 and 35, a group the operator hopes to further attract with updated spaces and digital features.
Alongside installing new electronic devices, Buzz has already invested over £1 million ($1.36 million) to upgrade wi-fi across its clubs.
Buzz Bingo was acquired by ICG in 2021, which took a majority stake from Caledonia Investments. The operator continues to expand its footprint, recently adding Merkur Bingo venues in Northampton and Cricklewood, home to what Buzz describes as the largest bingo club in Britain.
