Sweden’s gambling authority Spelinspektionen has issued a ban against WinBet NV after determining the operator illegally targeted Swedish consumers through its online platform, Superb.bet.
Following an investigation, Spelinspektionen found that WinBet lacked the necessary Swedish licence, operating solely under a licence issued in Greece. Despite this, the site was accessible to Swedish players and triggered several red flags indicating unlawful targeting.
Key findings revealed that Superb.bet automatically displayed in Swedish when accessed from Swedish IP addresses and enabled player registration without restriction. Additionally, it offered payment options specific to the Swedish market, criteria that under Swedish law constitute illegal targeting.
Spelinspektionen provided WinBet the opportunity to respond to the allegations, but the company failed to comment. The regulator subsequently imposed the ban with immediate effect.
This is not the first time WinBet has come under regulatory fire. In October last year, the Dutch gambling authority Kansspelautoriteit issued a formal warning to the operator for offering unlicensed online games of chance.
WinBet was operating four sites—Galaxyspins.com, Winnercasino1.bet, Superb1.bet, and Doctorspins.com—without proper licences. The operator faced weekly fines of €280,000 (US$328,636), up to a maximum of €840,000 (US$985,909), unless it ceased operations.
In a separate development, Spelinspektionen has cleared three licensed operators—AB Trav och Galopp (ATG), Svenska Spel Sport & Casino, and Lotto Direct—of any wrongdoing following a review of their compliance with reporting requirements.
The review, initiated in June, found no breaches or issues warranting further action. As a result, all three cases have been officially closed.
