Online casinos generated nearly half of Denmark’s gambling revenue in April 2025, according to Spillemyndigheden, with the vertical reporting DKK331 million ($51.2 million) in gross gaming revenue (GGR)—a 21.4% rise from the previous year.

The strong digital performance drove overall industry GGR up 11.6% year-on-year to DKK665 million ($103 million), despite declines in land-based gambling.

The DKK331 million in GGR was the highest since December 2024, when the total reached DKK347 million. Slots continued to account for the majority of online casino revenue at 78.9%, followed by blackjack at 6.6% and roulette at 6.4%. The remainder came from poker, bingo, and other games.

A shift toward mobile platforms was also observed, with 67.9% of online casino activity taking place on mobile devices, compared to 59% in 2024. Desktop use declined to 32.1%. The most active gaming days for online casinos in April were Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Sports betting sees modest growth

Sports betting generated DKK207 million in April, a 6.1% increase year-on-year. Mobile betting represented 70.8% of this total, while desktop platforms accounted for 15% and betting shops 14.2%. Weekend days had the highest volume of bets, with Tuesday ranking third.

Land-based revenue declines

Revenue from gaming machines fell 3.6% year-on-year to DKK93 million. Most of this came from gambling halls, which contributed 79.7% of machine-based GGR, with restaurant machines making up the remaining 20.3%. Tuesday was also the most active day for gaming machines.

Land-based casino GGR remained close to DKK31 million, the same as April 2024. This was the highest monthly total since December. Bingo generated DKK3 million, but comparative data for the previous year were not available.

By the end of April, 60,325 individuals had registered with Denmark’s national self-exclusion program ROFUS. Of these, 78.3% were male and 21.7% female, with 64.3% opting for permanent exclusion. The StopSpillet helpline handled 50 calls in April related to gambling concerns.

Spillemyndigheden also reported ongoing efforts to monitor illegal gambling, including partnerships with Twitch, Apple, Google, and Facebook.

Total GGR for January to April 2025 reached DKK2.53 billion, with online casinos contributing 50.3%.
