Caesars Entertainment will maintain its operation of Windsor’s casino for the next two decades, following a procurement process overseen by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).
The 20-year agreement between OLG and Caesars is expected to be finalized in early 2026, as per CBC News report. The announcement was made by Ontario’s Tourism Minister, Stan Cho, during a press conference held at the casino on Friday.
"At a time when geopolitical tensions are threatening to disrupt our economy, this new agreement between OLG and Caesars brings stability and peace of mind for thousands of local workers in Windsor," Cho said.
"Given its strong track record, deep understanding of the sector, and long-standing commitment to the community, our government is confident that Caesars will continue to serve Windsor and the surrounding area for many years to come," he added.
The casino, which opened in 1994, has been operated by Caesars for the past 17 years. It currently employs around 1,800 people.
James Stewart, president of Unifor 444, emphasized the significance of the agreement for both the local workforce and the region’s economic stability. "In a city like Windsor where you have all the competition in Detroit, it's important that the brands are attracted," he said. "We have shows here, we have people who specifically come here for that brand."
"It's important, that stability for our employees and our members for next 20 years," Steward added.
The previous operating agreement between the casino and the province had been extended several times, with the latest extension running until March 2026.
