Michigan iGaming and sports betting revenues reach $210.4 million in September

In September, Michigan's commercial and tribal operators collectively reported total internet gaming (iGaming) gross receipts and gross sports betting receipts of $210.4 million. The figure is 19.2% higher than last year and also 20% ahead of the $175.4 million last month, driven by a solid online gaming performance.

Specifically, iGaming gross revenue for September amounted to $166.4 million, while gross sports betting revenue reached $44 million. The previous month saw iGaming gross receipts of $152.2 million and gross sports betting receipts of $23.2 million.

When considering the adjusted gross receipts (AGR) for total iGaming and internet sports betting in September, the figures totaled $168.5 million. iGaming generated $149.8 million, representing a 9.2% increase from the prior month, and 29.3% on an annual basis. Meanwhile, sports betting generated $18.7 million, representing a 17.8% increase compared to the prior month, but a 31.1% decline annually. 

The total internet sports betting handle for September reached $457.7 million, more than double the amount that was bet in August, fueled by NFL bets. Handle also grew a significant 35.6% on an annual basis.

Michigan's operators made tax and payment contributions to the state in September, amounting to $39.6 million. This included $31.3 million from internet gaming taxes and fees and $1.3 million from internet sports betting.

In addition to state contributions, the three Detroit casinos contributed $7.97 million in wagering taxes and municipal services fees to the City of Detroit in September. This included $7.5 million from iGaming taxes and fees and $470,071 from internet sports betting.

Tribal operators also played their part, contributing $4 million in payments to governing bodies during September.

It's worth noting that 15 operators were authorized to provide internet gaming and internet sports betting services during September. Currently, 14 commercial and tribal operators offer internet sports betting, and 15 operators offer iGaming.
