Indoor smoking is slowly returning to Detroit casinos after a temporary ban was implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic. MGM Grand Detroit is bringing back its indoor smoking policy in designated parts of its property. According to the casino's website, the rule change went into effect on December 28.

Smokers will need to look out for signs that read Smoking Slots East and Smoking Slots West to indicate the sections, as they are the only indoor areas where smoking will be permitted. Doors have been added to minimize the impact across the casino floor.

The remainder of indoor casino areas will continue to be non-smoking. The outdoor smoking patio is also still in place. During COVID-19’s peak, a temporary ban on smoking in Detroit was implemented as smokers had to remove their masks to smoke.

The move to reinstate the smoking policy was implemented following guest surveys showing interest in smoking inside the MGM property. At the Hollywood Casino at Greektown, smoking is permitted only on the second floor, while MotorCity Casino still does not allow smoking at all in the building.
