South Florida casinos begin reopening after COVID-19 closures

The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood will require visitors to wear face masks and get temperature checks upon entering, officials said.

Seminole's properties —Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Seminole Classic Casino, and Seminole Casino Coconut Creek— will be reopening to patrons on Friday, while Big Easy Casino and Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino will be able to welcome back customers on June 15.

After being shut down for months to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, several casinos in South Florida have announced plans to reopen in the coming days.

The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood said it will open its doors on Friday for the first time since March. Seminole Classic Casino and Seminole Casino Coconut Creek will also open at noon on June 12.

The casino resorts will require visitors to wear face masks and get temperature checks upon entering, Fox 29 reports. Some table games are being retrofitted with plexiglass shields and gaming chips will be sprayed with a sanitizing solution.

Capacity will be limited to 50%, and guests and workers are expected to maintain social distancing. The resort says all of its properties have been equipped with air purification and disinfecting systems.

City of Hallandale Beach officials also announced casinos in the city will reopen on Monday.

Officials made the announcement on Wednesday that The Big Easy Casino and Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino will be able to welcome back customers on June 15, WSVN reports.

Hallandale Beach city leaders toured The Big Easy Casino to see new health protocols in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The new measures include temperature check cameras, spaced out gaming machines and social distancing procedures for playing Poker.

In Miami-Dade, the Hialeah Park Racing and Casino will reopen on Friday.

Magic City Casino will also reopen Friday. However, their poker room and Jai-Alai fronton will remain closed. Their sports club has already reopened.

Casino Miami will also resume operations on Friday, along with Calder Casino in Miami Gardens.
