The 110,000-square-foot venue will house numerous table games, slot machines and poker. The $90 million land-based casino replacing the riverboat at Horseshoe Southern Indiana has set an opening date on December 12. The 110,000-square-foot Caesars Southern Indiana is slated to open after several months of construction, relocating from the existing four-tiered riverboat location to the new one-story property.

The project calls for a 100,000-square-foot gaming and entertainment facility that will house numerous table games, slot machines and poker alongside Volt Lounge, a new bar and lounge offering craft cocktails and live entertainment.

In addition, Juno Bar will be located in the center of the gaming floor and encircled by large flat-screen televisions. A new VIP lounge also is being added with an outdoor balcony, premium gaming areas and a private parlor.

A new food hall, Piazza, will be established within the facility with five restaurants. The food hall is expected to have a mix of concepts including, pizza, Mexican and Asian restaurants sharing space with a 24-hour restaurant serving burgers and other fare and a homestyle restaurant serving fried chicken, barbecue ribs and other dishes. The restaurants are expected to roll out within months after the casino opens. The existing Jack Binion's Steakhouse will remain.

Some of the meeting and convention spaces also are being renovated, and a nonsmoking gaming area and sportsbook also are planned that will offer betting on both college and professional sports.

"It will be a one-level gaming experience. Everything will feel revived and modern," said General Manager Brad Seigel. "(Everything) will be right next to the parking garage."

Horseshoe Southern Indiana announced the name change to Caesars Southern Indiana in May, which will be finalized upon the opening of the facility. Seigel said then that the timing was right to move to the Caesars name in light of such a significant capital investment because the name is synonymous with gaming and entertainment.

Ahead of the opening, Horseshoe also is hosting what it is calling a Bon Voyage party on Saturday, Nov. 30, to celebrate the history of the riverboat casino, which will sail into the sunset. The ceremony runs from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public 21 or older, according to a news release.
