Detroit casinos show 5.3 percent in revenue for June

Revenue at Detroit's casinos rose 5.3 percent in June from a year ago, the Michigan Gaming Control Board reported Wednesday.

Last month yielded $119.1 million in aggregate revenue for the three facilities. Though the figure marks an increase from last year, it's a 4.4 percent drop from May's total, the board said in a news release.

MGM Grand Casino took up 44 percent of the market share in June with $51.8 million in revenue, a 6.6 percent rise over the same month last year. MotorCity Casino Hotel, with 33 percent of the market share, saw revenue climb 4.4 percent to $39.6 million. At 23 percent of market share, Greektown Casino-Hotel reported $27.7 million in June, a 4.4 percent rise.

In June, the casinos paid $9.6 million in gaming taxes to the state and $14.2 million in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the city of Detroit.

Monthly revenue at the three casinos has risen year-on-year the past few months. They reported record revenue of $138.6 million in March, but revenue was down in February and January.
