The gaming and digital payments industry is preparing for a sharp rise in transaction volumes during the FIFA World Cup 2026, as user activity is expected to spike around match schedules.

During major sporting events, deposits typically surge just before and during matches, while withdrawals peak immediately after results. Transaction flows can reach up to five times normal levels, creating short but intense periods of demand that stress payment infrastructure.

Such volatility is placing renewed pressure on infrastructure resilience, with operators and payment providers required to maintain uninterrupted service, low latency, and high processing reliability during peak demand.

In anticipation of this surge, payments infrastructure provider ProntoPaga announced a series of operational upgrades aimed at strengthening its regional capacity ahead of the tournament and other high-volume events.

The company reported a major expansion in throughput, increasing its processing capability from 5,000 to 20,000 transactions per minute (TPM). It also stated it is now prepared to handle peaks exceeding 100,000 TPM—up to seven times its previous capacity.

Alongside the scaling of infrastructure, ProntoPaga has implemented optimizations across load balancing systems, business logic, and database architecture. The company also highlighted ongoing upgrades to its data processing and storage systems to improve scalability and stability under high traffic conditions.

To support operations during peak demand periods, the firm is also rolling out continuous 24/7 customer support, reinforced service coverage, CRM-based request handling, and AI-assisted support agents designed to streamline operational response times.

The company said these measures aim to ensure uninterrupted service for gaming operators and merchants across Latin American markets during periods of extreme transaction intensity, such as the upcoming World Cup.
