A new Gambling Act has been approved by the Riksdag —the Swedish Parliament—, providing for a renewed license system that would become effective in 2019. In consequence, the Swedish Gambling Authority will publish license application forms for those companies interested in operating in the country on August.

Once the Swedish government signs into law the new Gambling Act acted passed by the Riksdag —expected to occur in July—, operators will be able to apply for licenses before the Swedish Gambling Authority as from August 1st.

The application documents could then be made available from 10 July, unless they need to be adjusted as a result of the Gambling Regulation.

The Swedish Gambling Authority's regulations and guidelines should be pre-published on the website after 24 July. These will preliminary be in force on 1 September.

Preliminary timetable for application documents and regulations:

  • 5 July the Government is expected to approve a new Gambling Regulation which further regulates in more detail the new Gambling Act. The Gambling Regulation also contains application fees and mandate to the Gambling Authority.
  • 10 July application documents are expected to be published on the Swedish Gambling Authority´s website (if they do not need to be adjusted as a result of the Gambling Regulation).
  • After 24 July the regulations and guidelines of the Swedish Gambling Authority will be pre-published on the website. These will preliminary be in force on 1 September.
