In the next week, city staff will work on a resolution stating its position, and City Council is expected to vote on it at its Dec. 4 meeting.
"The administration - I've talked with the mayor about it - has no problem with a casino being located within the city," Managing Director W. Glenn Steckman III said Monday at City Council's Committee of the Whole meeting. "He recognizes, obviously, that there are sometimes social issues that come with it, but he's also looking for employment opportunities for city residents."
Additional tax revenue for the city is another benefit, Steckman added.
On Oct. 30, Gov. Tom Wolf signed a bill into law that allows for up to 10 new satellite casinos in the state, referred to as Category 4 facilities.
These casinos can operate between 300 and 750 slot machines, as well as up to 40 table games.
