According to figures released by the Nevada Gaming Control Board, the US state posted a 15% year-on-year surge in gambling revenue during August, due in part to increased sports betting activity.

Overall gaming revenue was $989.5m in August, up more than $120m on the $861.1m in the corresponding month last year.

Las Vegas Strip saw the largest growth, with revenue increasing by 21.35% year-on-year, although North Las Vegas, Laughlin, Boulder Strip and Mesquite also witnessed an increase in revenue during the month.

Analysts believe the year-on-year growth was driven by a higher level of sports betting in the month, boosted by the boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor.
