Lord David Currie is the chairman of the UK Advertising Standards Authority. In a recent interview, he criticized the "liberalization" of the gambling market in the country, questioning current industry controls.

The UK gambling market has been hit with more media comments for the alleged failure to prevent vulnerable gamblers from addiction and other health issues. Furthermore, a review on the gambling industry will be released in October, focusing on the fixed-odds betting terminals that have been stirring up controversy with its advertisements and the proposed stricter regulations that may be coming forth.

According to Currie, the industry UK is not regulated like it should be, and that the Advertising Standards Authority cannot do everything on its own. He noted that “clearer boundaries should be introduced” to give a better definition on what the term “gambling ad” really means.
