Almost a year to the day since Crown Resorts was approved for its VIP gaming resort at Sydney Harbour, the Australian operator has finally submitted plans for its USD 2B project.

Towering 275 metres, Crown Sydney Hotel Resort will be the ninth tallest building in Australia and second tallest in the city next to Sydney Tower.

“Today is an extremely important milestone for the Crown Sydney Hotel Resort,” commented James Packer, Crown Resorts Chairman & CEO. “Our latest application to the Department shows how much architectural work has gone into designing a building that will be recognised globally.”

Designed by British architects Wilkinson Eyre, plans for the first six-star resort in Sydney detail a 71-storey venue that houses a 350-room hotel, 25 luxury villas and 66 apartments, including a 2-storey penthouse. A 3-storey sky villa sits 260 metres above the ground at the top of the complex and is expected to rival the world’s best hotel rooms.

Two floors of world-class gaming entertainment will be 100 metres from the ground, above the hotel, and plan to rival luxury VIP casino facilities in Asia. Crown said in its filed documents that it estimates only 5pc of existing customers at Crown Melbourne would be eligible to access the VIP gaming amenities at the Sydney facility.

On the ground floor, high-end restaurants, bars and shops will be available to the public 24 hours a day and on the western harbour edge, restaurant and café terraces extend within 16 metres of the waterfront. In addition, the plans show more than 600 car parking spaces, which is almost a 400pc increase on the number of spaces originally proposed.

Submitted to the Department of Planning and Environment this week, the state government must now sign off on the proposal. The public has until August 24 to comment on Crown Resorts’ submission.
