Arizona to reopen sports betting license application window in June

Arizona will reopen applications for event wagering licenses from June 26 to July 10, the Arizona Department of Gaming has announced. The state periodically accepts applications when licenses become available, with the last application window held in 2024.

Arizona authorized 20 event wagering licenses when legal sports betting launched in 2021. Under the framework, 10 licenses are reserved for operators partnered with Arizona tribes, while the remaining 10 are designated for operators aligned with professional sports franchises in the state.

“As the state regulator, we remain dedicated to consumer protection and a thorough licensing review process,” said Cliff Holden, the Department of Gaming’s Assistant Director of Certification and Licensing. “We look forward to receiving new applications for regulated event wagering.”

The state currently has 14 active event wagering licensees after several operators exited the market amid broader industry consolidation.

Sportsbooks including Betfred, SuperBook Sports, Betway, Fubo Sportsbook, TwinSpires, Unibet, and WynnBet have all ceased operations in Arizona, alongside closures in other U.S. markets. SaharaBets also shut down operations in Arizona after losing its sports franchise partnership when the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes relocated to Utah.

Arizona’s market is led by major operators including DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, bet365, and Fanatics. However, the market is facing increased competition from prediction markets, which may also limit opportunities for new entrants.

Since the launch of legal wagering, Arizona bettors have placed approximately $33.9 billion in wagers, generating nearly $179.9 million in state fees. In 2025 alone, Arizona sports betting revenue surpassed $713 million, while the state recorded the sixth-largest sports betting handle in the United States.
