Online gaming operator 666Bet has cited the suspension of its license by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) as the reason behind its inability to return funds to its customers.

The UKGC last month suspended 666Bet’s license on an interim basis in order to review the operator’s status.

The suspension has stopped 666Bet from offering its services in the UK market, while customers of the operator have been unable to withdraw personal funds from the website.

Despite having last week stated that it was doing “all it can” to return the funds and players would be paid once its operations gain approval from the UKGC, customers have hit out at the operator and launched an online petition in an effort to reclaim their funds.

666Bet has now issued a new statement in which it cites the UKGC-enforced suspension as the reason behind the inability to return funds to customers.

A statement posted on the official 666Bet Facebook page said: “While the UKGC have stated that we do not require a licence in order for customers to withdraw their money and authorised us to do so, this is misleading as it does not recognise the fact that, as a web-based company, we need to be online in order for customers to action their withdrawals via their accounts.

“We have been in negotiations with a third-party provider to allow us to return so customers can authorise withdrawals, quickly and smoothly.

“Our potential provider explicitly informed us in good faith that this move needs to be sanctioned by the UKGC.

“We were further told that this was expected yesterday (Monday) but so far we have yet to receive an update from either party.

“We understand customers' frustrations and fully appreciate their concerns.

“We have been doing everything within our power to refund customers fully but are now waiting on the aforementioned parties to reach an agreement so we can proceed as planned.”
