The document from the Republican-controlled body outlined its spending priorities as it prepares to negotiate with Governor Andrew Cuomo on how to reduce the eastern state’s us$ 1.3 billion deficit ahead of an April 1 deadline.
Included by Republican New York State Senator Dean Skelos in partnership with Democrat counterpart Jeff Klein, the language relies on a recent state court ruling that determined poker was a game of skill and not a legally prohibited game of chance.
“The Senate supports authorising and regulating Internet gaming for games of skill including poker to reflect recent changes in the classification of these games,” read the language in the budgetary statement.
According to a report from the New York Post newspaper, the state would raise up to us$ 100 million by licensing approved iGaming vendors while authorised operators would have to have their servers based in the state.
For his part, Cuomo has proposed raising additional revenues by authorising up to seven casinos with the first three earmarked for the northern part of the state.
