(UK).- Work on a major retail and leisure complex at The NEC is set to commence this month after the construction company and casino operator, Genting UK, behind the scheme reached financial terms.

Construction group Galliford Try was awarded the contract to build the us$ 142.8 million Resorts World project last year, encompassing a casino, conference and banqueting facilities, 176-bed four/five-star hotel and spa, factory outlet centre, cinema complex, food and beverage retail space and parking for 480 cars. The new Resorts World will sit between the LG Arena and Crowne Plaza Hotel and cover 55,000 sqm.

Galliford and Genting UK have now reached financial close allowing work to begin. It is scheduled to be completed by January 2015. “We are delighted we have completed a successful negotiation with Genting UK and now look forward to starting onsite on what will be one of the most prestigious projects in the Midlands of recent times,” says Galliford Try CEO, Greg Fitzgerald.
