“Gaming industry keeps on growing in Peru”

(Peru, exclusive Yogonet.com).- Next July, Peru will implement the Unified Control System in Real Time (SUCTR). MINCETUR’s General Direction of Casinos and Slots is certifying different systems that must be qualified by GLI or the Peruvian University Pontificia Universidad Católica. In this interview, Constante Traverso, President of the Peruvian Games of Chance Association (APEJA), analizes the current situation and the future of the Peruvian gaming.


What balance can you make of 2011?
Very positive. The Peruvian games of chance industry is still growing and bringing benefits to society through the contribution of revenue, the promotion of prívate investment and the generation of jobs.

How have you seen the gaming industry in general in a year in which the economic crisis affected several international markets?
No doubt the crisis affected everyone. However, the oficial numbers and important investments made indicate that the gaming industry still maintains an important growth.

Which has been, in your opinion, the most important novelty of the year?
I think the main thing is the correction of the norm that forces the interconnection of online control in Peru. With this modification, we believe that this time interconnection will effectively be achieved. Political will exists and I think it is noteworthy.

Which has been, in your view, the most innovative product or service launched this year?
Certainly, server-based slots have been a novelty in Peru. We expect an adequate regulation and we are sure that the terminals will modify several of the business concepts so far.

How do you see 2012 for the gaming industry in general? Will it be similar to 2011? Do you think that there will be a growth in the activity?
I think the gaming industry lives a maturity, based in solid foundations. We are very optimistic and we expect a sustained growth.
