With a clear open door policy, addressed to the media as well as the regional and national community, the General Manager of Monticello Grand Casino, George Garcelon, granted a detailed conference and guided journalists around the different places that were affected inside the casino.

Garcelon remarked that, at the time of the violent earthquake, more than 4,000 people were in the casino, which were successfully evacuated in just eight minutes, regretting the fact that seven people were hurt, but fortunately, all of them have evolved favourably in their recovery. Besides, the company has communicated with them offering help and financial support.

The 400 employees that were working at that moment were not injured, remarking their preparation, decision, professionalism and bravery.

Although no structural damage was certified, several damages were detected in the interior of the buildings, valuated in us$ 10 million (with the insurances committed)".

“We are completely focused in the refurbishment of Monticello with all the glamour, sofistication and design that our customers are accustomed to. Both the casino and the hotel have unique designs, part of our constant effort to offer something never seen in Chile,” said Garcelon.

Electricity and water are being supplied by a service enterprise. However, due to restrictions in the distributions of electric energy, Monticello is operating with its geneators. He also pointed that it is also necessary to perform further evaluations to ater distribution (piping).

“Despite the fact that it is not possible to determine how much time we will be closed yet, because we want to perform the process of ellaboration, delivery and installation of carpets and furniture as soon as possible, we estimate we will require around three months,” added Garcelon.

Two telephone lines have been set in order to attend people that have left their belongings or have queries: 800-835-255 or 02-714-6104 (Mondays to Fridays 09,00 hs. to 18,30 hs.).
