The Board of Directors of the Instituto Brasileiro Jogo Legal held a meeting last week in São Paulo to discuss new efforts aimed at favoring the sector, and to speed up the gambling legalization process in Brazil.

Within the framework of a case being heard by the Supreme Federal Court (STF, per Portuguese acronym), the Brazilian Institute for Legal Gaming (IJL), in its role of amicus curiae will produce documentation for the ministers, containing a summary of the main facts and supporting arguments of the case.

The appeal lodged by the public prosecutor’s office of Rio Grande do Sul with the STF, questions an appellate court ruling that defined as “atypical” the operation of games of chance and refused to recognize the criminal act arguing that the reasons behind the prohibitions are unconstitutional.

Another decision made by IJL authorities was to resume hearings in Brasilia. They have proposed to begin with the recently-elected presidents of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies (the Brazilian Congress’ lower house), respectively, and to continue with members of the executive branch.
