Ahead of ICE 2019, Global Sales Management for NOVOMATIC Mike Robinson talks to Yogonet about the upcoming opportunities ICE will bring for the firm's portfolio, the success 2018 partnerships has brought to Sportradar and what the industry will look like in post-PASPA 2019.


ould you provide some insight into the products you are planning to debut at ICE Totally Gaming 2019?

On the giant NOVOMATIC stand, which covers the South Gallery between entrances S6-S7 and takes up over 10-percent of the entire expo floor, more than 20 subsidiaries will debut new products for their respective markets. A focus for the international casino space will see the launch of new slot titles, such as Lucky Lady’s Wild Spell, Dragon Hits, Princesses of War, Savage Hunt and Valkyrie Star from the game design studios around the world.

Another slot highlight brings the Greek god Apollo to the reels in Apollo God of the Sun – a hit Greentube game that makes its land-based debut on the NOVOLINE Interactive platform. In addition, the IP title MacGyver that was unveiled at G2E, makes its international premiere in London.

The games will be presented across a range of cabinet technology, such as the PANTHERA and V.I.P. series, as well as the brand new V.I.P. Eagle III 3.32 cabinet. Slot launches will also take place by the interactive division Greentube under its new motto “Home of Games” – highlights include Great Gambini’s Night Magic, Tidal Riches and the online version of Enchanted Fortunes Linked Jackpot. On the Ainsworth side, new European and international products will be on show, with a focus on linked progressives like Golden Link and the PAC-MAN Link series.

Moving around the stand, the various subsidiaries will debut a wide variety of cutting-edge innovation like a new facial recognition system from NOVOMATIC Biometric Systems, updates to the NovoPrime Sports system developed with Sportradar, and the Octavian myACP casino management system that features new functionalities such as GPDR and AML tools.

At ICE 2018, the industry celebrated the international release of the From Dusk Till Dawn IP casino title. Can operators and players expect similarly iconic launches in 2019?

The focus at ICE 2019 will be MacGyver – under partnership with CBS Studios, this iconic 80s TV show comes to life in casinos with Richard Dean Anderson and the lead cast. Developed by our Mount Prospect studio in Illinois, first for the US, the game is packed with explosive gameplay and is now available for international markets. Presented on the NOVOSTAR V.I.P. 3.50 and V.I.P. Lounge 2.32 cabinets, this IP title will also debut online at ICE, with the first of two interactive versions – MacGyver: Duct Tape & Diamonds – on desktop and mobile.

Has the recent debut of sports betting kiosks in the US fulfilled NOVOMATIC’s expectations? Can we expect any other game-changing moves from NOVOMATIC in the sports betting field for 2019, now that an industry expert such as Felipe Ludeña is calling the shots?

The demand for our full-service Sports betting kiosks in the US has far exceeded our expectations since entering the market last year. We are working on multiple solutions, including our new NovoPrime Sports product that is now live in Italy and perfectly suited for international markets such as the US. Felipe has brought his expertise to assess the company’s solutions as well as operational activities to offer the most advanced technology in the sector. This will be an exciting area for NOVOMATIC in the coming months and years.

What discussions should drive the 2019 agenda at an industry-level?

Of course, sports betting will be a hot topic this year, spearheaded by the repeal of PASPA in the US. New online markets opening in Europe such as Sweden, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Slovakia, as well as in North and South America will also be a major point of discussion. In the land-based space, stand-alone as well as linked progressives continue to be advancing. At ICE, the Enchanted Fortunes Linked Jackpot will present a full suite of linked progressive titles and the new Pay Day game series will launch with a fast-paced 6-level stand-alone progressive.

How is NOVOMATIC ‘going that extra mile’ to outperform competition in 2019?

A current focus has been to slow our rapid acquisition drive and develop synergies between the subsidiaries. This enables us to utilize different expertise around the world to create compelling and advanced solutions for different product markets.
