The growth in gaming revenue is the highest since February 2014. However, policy risks remain as Macau’s government and Chinese authorities put in new regulations to deter capital outflows from the mainland, including facial recognition technology on automated teller machines to curb money laundering.

At the end of the first quarter of 2017 there were 39 casinos in Macau run by six concession holders, 21 by Sociedade Jogos de Macau, six by Galaxy Casino, five by Venetian Macau, four by Melco Crown Jogos (Macau), two by Wynn Resorts (Macau) and one by MGM Grand Paradise, which had 6,423 gaming tables and 16,018 slot machines.
