Aquila Global Group’s Wplay.co is the first to go live in the South American country, after winning approval from regulator Coljuegos.
  • Coljuegos expects Colombia’s online gaming market to generate up to USD 2.6M in the first years of operations.
  • The government said it will block 325 unlicensed online gaming websites in the coming days.
  • Those companies who meet financial, technical and legal requirements set by Coljuegos will be able to apply for an online gaming license to operate in the country.

Coljuegos President Juan B. Pérez Hidalgo highlighted the efforts of the government saying Colombia was the first country in the region to implement online gaming regulation, drawing the attention of companies from across the world.

The head of Coljuegos explained that gaming taxes will be used to fund social causes and improve community well-being.

The regulator also said it plans to announce new online gaming licenses in the second half of the year. “As we actively work towards creating a strong regulatory framework, we want to encourage gaming operators to join the Colombian market, “ Pérez Hidalgo commented.
