The Breitbart News Network reported that during a town hall meeting in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Rubio was asked about his position on the legalization of internet poker and online gambling.
“I’m very concerned about expanding gaming online,” said Rubio. “What I don’t want to see is internet casinos, because I have seen gambling addiction ruin families, I have seen gambling expansion ruin people’s lives.” Rubio remarked that he felt differently about online poker as it involved “some level of skill.”
Rubio said he wanted responsible regulation of online gambling instead of what he described as the “Wild West” approach of letting states pass their own laws.
In June last year, Rubio co-sponsored legislation supported by Las Vegas Sands magnate Sheldon Adelson which seeks to tighten gambling rules and ultimately prohibit real-money online gaming for games of chance.
