Macau: VIP baccarat gross revenue hits US$ 24.5 billion

(Macau).- VIP baccarat generated gross revenue of US$ 24.5 billion last year, accounting for 73 % of the casino sector’s overall revenue. VIP baccarat revenue increased 44.6 % year-on-year, according to official data from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau.

This means VIP baccarat grew faster than the overall casino gaming market – 2011 ended with gross revenue of us$33 billion, a 42.2 % increase over the previous year.

Mass market baccarat was the second most popular casino game in Macau last year, generating revenue of us$ 89 billion, up by 39.4 % year-on-year.

Slot machines closed the podium of the most popular casino games in 2011, with MOP11.4 billion in revenue, a jump of 32.6 % over the previous year.

Slots made up 4.3 % of the overall casino gross gaming revenue last year.

The casino sector generated 99.6 % of Macau’s total gross gaming revenue, which also includes greyhound races, horse races, sports betting and lotteries.

At the end of December, Macau had a total of 5,302 gaming tables, 77 less than three months earlier. The number of slot machines increased in the same period from 15,900 to 16,056.
