(US).- Following a competitive and robust tender process, the States of Jersey have signed an agreement with The Global Draw, a wholly owned subsidiary of Scientific Games, to introduce a new electronic instant ticket (EIT) system throughout Jersey, in the Channel Islands.

This contract makes the Channel Islands Lottery the first government lottery in Europe to sell tickets from EIT terminals. The new EIT terminals provide a more convenient and interactive experience for lottery players in Jersey, which is currently the only Channel Island with enabling legislation to allow the sale of electronic instant tickets. Players simply insert their money into the terminal, select the ticket of their choice from a number of lottery ticket images, “scratch” the ticket on the screen and then collect a receipt to claim their prize. Players are still able to buy tickets over the counter as well.

Speaking about the agreement, Jersey's Minister of Economic Development, Senator Alan Maclean commented, “We are pleased to announce the signing of this contract with The Global Draw, which is known for its innovative technology and content. We are excited about the potential increase in revenue this may generate for local good causes.”

The EIT terminals are networked to a centralised system which makes operations for the Channel Islands Lottery more integrated and secure. Daily monitoring and reporting ensures that sales of the lottery tickets are accounted for more effectively with increased security and integrity.

In addition to being offered at traditional instant ticket retailers, electronic instant tickets will be made available in the airport, seaport, pubs, hotels, and supermarket chains throughout Jersey.

Paul Burnell, Director of EIT/Lottery at The Global Draw commented, “We believe electronic instant tickets offer a new opportunity for lottery revenue growth and we are excited to pioneer this technology in Jersey. Not only do our new EIT terminals comply with the highest security standards, they also introduce a new and entertaining way to buy lottery tickets, which we believe will lead to increased support for local charities and good causes.”
