Local Mayor would prevent installation

Mexico: six casinos seek to open its doors in Culiacan

(México).- In July 2009, the Council approved the installation of the latest new casino in Culiacán. Currently, six new venues seek to operate in the city, as announced by the Mayor, Hector Melesio Cuén Ojeda, who said his government will not allow any more gambling floors in the city.

"

I will not allow casinos. We need to clarify, and I think this is very relevant, that the approval for the casino to be opened was given by the previous Council. Since July, they came here only to tell that they were going to be installing, where it has approved 13 to 4 vote, I got to see the minutes of City Council last year, and this has to be clear, "said Ojeda Cuén.

"What is certain is that there are six casinos that are to be opened here in Culiacan, which presents a big problem, as they bring permission of Government at national level. And we want to agree with Congress not to open more casinos, especially because of the problem of pathological gambling that is occurring, and, from my point of view, with the casinos that already are there, is enough.
