The grinding economic environment has cast a new and critical light on the revenue potential of the gaming industry, and even relatively new markets such as Florida have not been immune to the challenges.
“The economy has wreaked havoc with most consumer-driven industries, and gaming is no exception,” said Joseph S. Weinert, Senior Vice President of Spectrum Gaming Group, co-producer of the conference along with BNP Media. “Being relatively young and still growing, the Florida gaming market has been spared the fate of more mature jurisdictions, but the intense competition within South Florida and other market factors certainly are impacting the industry.”
Weinert will lead the four participants in the panel discussion, which will close out the Summit on Tuesday, October 19. Speakers include Christopher E. Jones, a Director at Telsey Advisory Group; John Maxwell, a Managing Director for Jefferies & Co.; Alex Picou, a Managing Director in Gaming, Lodging, Travel and Leisure for FBR Capital Markets; and Adam Steinberg, a Managing Director with Merriman Capital, Inc.
They are part of an outstanding overall speaker lineup at the Summit, which includes three keynote speakers. Attorney Alan Koslow, serving as President of the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, will welcome attendees at the opening cocktail reception on October 18. The ever-popular and eloquent Jim Allen, Chief Executive Officer of Gaming Operations for the Seminole Tribe of Florida, will provide the morning keynote address at 8:30 a.m. on October 19. Delivering the luncheon keynote later that day will be Bill Galvano, representing District 68 in the Florida House of Representatives.
For the second consecutive year, the City of Hollywood, the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and the law firm of Becker & Poliakoff P.A. have signed on as presenting sponsors, recognizing the importance of the Summit and of gaming to the local economy.
