The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has announced the purchase of an additional 100 free Gamban licenses for residents following strong demand for the online gambling blocking software program launched last month.

More than 80 of the first 100 licenses were claimed shortly after the program launched, prompting the agency to expand access to the gambling-blocking software.

Gamban is a gambling-blocking software that restricts access to gambling websites and applications across major devices and operating systems, including Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS. The software is designed to be difficult to remove and allows users to block gambling content across unlimited household devices under a single license.

"The response from Michigan residents in the first two weeks of this program exceeded our expectations and speaks to a genuine need in our communities," said MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams. "We acted quickly to secure an additional 100 licenses so that no resident seeking this kind of support is turned away. Michigan is committed to ensuring that the expansion of legal gaming comes with the strongest possible safeguards for the people we serve."

The MGCB first partnered with Gamban in April, offering free licenses ranging from one to five years to Michigan residents without requiring enrollment in a self-exclusion program. The initiative was aimed at removing financial barriers for individuals seeking tools to combat gambling-related harm.

The software blocks access to a wide range of gambling platforms, including online casinos, sports betting sites, poker, slots, social casinos, cryptocurrency gambling, and NFT-based wagering. The coverage also extends to unregulated and offshore gambling websites.

"The strong response to this program tells us that residents want accessible, device-level support — and we intend to keep delivering it," Williams said. "These additional licenses mean more Michigan residents can take back control, free of charge."

Michigan residents can claim a free Gamban license by visiting this website, selecting the free license offer, and creating a Gamban account. After signing up, they can download and install Gamban on all personal devices, with coverage for unlimited household devices. Live technical support is also available to assist users with installation.

The Gamban initiative is part of the MGCB’s wider responsible gaming efforts, which also include the Responsible Gaming Database for online self-exclusion, Detroit casinos’ Disassociated Persons List, and the “Don’t Regret the Bet” public awareness campaign.
