American Airlines is expanding its Chicago O’Hare International Airport hub, increasing service to 75 destinations and doubling daily flights between Chicago and Las Vegas ahead of spring break.
The Fort Worth, Texas-based carrier announced that beginning in February, round-trip flights between O’Hare and Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas will increase from three to six per day, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. Tickets for the new flights are now available for purchase on American’s website.
The expansion is part of a broader push to strengthen American’s presence in Chicago. At peak periods this spring, the airline will operate more than 500 daily departures from O’Hare—about 30 percent more than last spring—solidifying the airport’s position as American’s third-largest global hub and placing it among the 10 largest hub operations of any U.S. airline.
“We’re committed to rebuilding our Chicago hub to be stronger and more compelling for our customers, and our 2026 plans are both emblematic of that objective and an exciting way to end a year defined by bold growth and investment at ORD,” Steve Johnson, American’s vice chair and chief strategy officer, said in a statement. He noted that the airline’s 2026 plans coincide with American’s centennial and its 100th year of service at O’Hare.
As part of the spring schedule, American will add 100 peak daily departures and increase service in 75 markets, including popular spring break destinations such as Las Vegas. American is currently the fourth-busiest carrier at Harry Reid International Airport.
The airline also announced extensions to its summer seasonal international service from Chicago, with flights to Dublin operating about a month longer and service to Paris extended by three months compared with previous seasons.
American carried approximately four million passengers to and from Las Vegas in the first 11 months of 2025. From the city, the airline offers nonstop service to several major markets, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, Phoenix, New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, Washington’s Ronald Reagan National Airport, and Charlotte, North Carolina.
Las Vegas welcomed 3.14 million visitors in November, a 5.2% decline from last year, despite hosting major events like the SEMA show, the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, and three Raiders home games, Fox5 reported, citing data from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
About 547,000 people attended conventions during the month, essentially unchanged from last year. The SEMA show dominated convention activity, drawing an estimated 160,000 attendees.
